Greeting from the President

土木学会第101代会長 橋本 鋼太郎

Dear colleagues and friends:

On behalf of the JSCE members, I am delighted to announce that JSCE marks its 100th Anniversary this year. The 100th Anniversary Celebration, including International Forum, 3rd Roundtable Meeting on Disaster Management (renamed from Asian Board Meeting), commemorative ceremony and banquet, will be held in Tokyo on November 19, 20 and 21. It is our great honor and pleasure to invite you to participate in the Celebration.

In the last 100 years, Japanese civil engineers have improved their practices to ensure the safety and well-being of people in cooperation with their colleagues around the world.

As the turn of the 21st century, civil engineers have played an increasingly important role in addressing globalization challenges such as natural disasters, food and water shortages, energy scarcity, poverty, and traffic problems. The civil engineers are called on to foster collaborations among them across borders so as to more effectively respond to those challenges and to achieve societal resilience and sustainable development.

The International Forum “Contributions of Infrastructure to Life of Affluence is taken place to on November 20. The forum will discusses civil engineering contributions to achieving an affluent society, reviewing the past infrastructure development and international collaborations in the civil engineering field.

Also, the 3rd Roundtable Meeting (RTM) is scheduled on November 19 and 20. Civil engineering professionals will come from around the Asian region and explore the best practices for reducing the impact of natural disasters.

The Celebration will be the milepost which shows the progress of a journey toward a future goal. Again, we cordially extend an invitation to your delegation to participate in the Celebration and share views and ideas in the discussions.

I truly look forward to welcoming you at the centenary of JSCE in this autumn.

Yours sincerely,

Kotaro Hashimoto, Exec. Pro. C.E. (JSCE)
101st JSCE President
